My name is Nicki Bailey, and I am a graduate student at Colorado State University who is passionate about pollinator conservation. I've been at Colorado State for almost three years studying pollinators on public lands from National Parks to city parks. I am originally from Grand Rapids, Michigan, and graduated from the wonderfully tiny liberal arts school, Kalamazoo College, in 2021. During my time at Kalamazoo College, I had the opportunity to research native bees in a powerline right-of-way habitat and help pilot a bumble bee citizen science project with my mentor Dr. Ann Fraser. I would have never considered research as a career before that experience, but now I can't imagine doing anything else.Â
Outside of research, I love seeing live music, skiing, hiking, and sitting outside with a good book. I also spend time drawing and crocheting. Check out my illustrations tab to see my scientific illustrations!
Younger me would probably rather be a frog hunter than entomologist, but I've always loved the outdoors!
